The Goodlands® Project
The Goodlands®, Centro Nueva Creación's flagship program, was created in 2000 to empower young people in the Fairhill community to focus on the positive aspects of their neighborhood through photography. Fairhill, a predominantly Latino, low-income neighborhood with a history of violence sustained by drug sales and poverty, has been stigmatized by the media as the “Badlands.” Goodlands® utilizes children’s inherent strengths to contribute to the positive development of themselves and their community. The Goodlands® is a mindset for young people to view themselves, their family, culture, city, and the world. The Goodlands® provides opportunities for young people to find their voice and creatively express themselves through the arts.
Since its inception, the Centro Nueva Creación has trained over 800 children in photography and poetry, and has presented their work in over 20 public exhibitions throughout the city of Philadelphia and beyond. Learn more about exhibitions of Centro children's work.

“The image-making process becomes an outlet for exposing countless hidden truths...our hope is that these images will offer a new perspective on the West Kensington and Fairhill neighborhoods of North Philadelphia."
