Centro Nueva Creacion Programs
Centro Nueva Creacion is the Home of the Goodlands. The Goodlands Photography classes take place during both the after school and summer camp programs.
Centro Nueva Creacion is a non profit organization in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia that offers after school and summer camp programs for elementary-aged students. Children in kindergarten through 5th grade participate in educational and enrichment activities based in the Arts, Latino cultures, and neighborhood beautification projects.
Centro serves 55 students in both the after school and summer camp. The cost to attend the after school program is $5 a week per child. The summer camp costs $120 per camper for the entire 6-week program. No child is turned away if they cannot afford these fees. We work with every family to establish an affordable fee. Approximately 90% of our students receive some sort of scholarship to reduce the program fees.
After-school Program
The after school program operates from September through June, from 3pm-6pm. Students receive a healthy snack, participate in project-based learning, and receive homework help. Enrichment projects are designed with the help of our students. This ensures that students are engaged in their learning and that it is relevant to them.
Summer Camp
Summer Camp 2010 revolved around the theme, “Nuestras Raices”, or “Our Roots”. Students learned about the Taino Indians, the indigenous peoples of Puerto Rico. Students participated in photography, poetry, Bomba Dancing, Bomba Drumming, mural arts, and ceramics. The work our students produced was displayed at our 6th annual summer camp photography exhibit at Nexus Foundation for Today’s Arts.
