CENTRO NUEVA CREACION PROGRAMS
THE GOODLANDS ® COMMUNITY ARTS PROGRAM
Involves
at least 80 community members in the act of beautifying the
community through photography, murals, gardens, and neighborhood
cleanup. Through the transformational power of art, The Goodlands®
works to improve the way that residents and the greater
Philadelphia community perceive North Philadelphia.
Philadelphians are exposed to the powerful images children
capture at photography exhibitions. (See

AFTERSCHOOL
PROGRAM
Offers
tutoring, arts and enrichment activities for 30 young people
ages 5 to 13 years. The 2007 After School theme was
"Healthy Living", in which students and staff explored
the connection between personal wellness and environmental
awareness. In a continued effort to increase literacy
skills we are continuing a partnership with Roll Over
and Read, a program that pairs children with therapy
dogs to help them become confident readers. (To learn

SUMMER
CAMP
Provides
30 young people with engaging learning and artistic enrichment
activities that will help maintain academic progress.
The theme for Summer Camp 2008 is "Neighborhood Hearts
and Hands". Children participate in hands-on activities
designed to be heart healthy, both physically as well emotionally.
Summer Camp activities include yoga, poetry, painting,
clay hand-building, photography, nutrition, and gardening.
Children also visit the local pool daily and go on weekly

COMMUNITY
COMPUTER LABS
Offers 20 PC units
and 7 Macintosh units with high-speed Internet capability.
The computers at Centro Nueva Creacion have academic software
for children to improve their math, reading, writing, critical
thinking, problem-solving, and typing skills. The labs
are integrated into programming and open to the community
during non-programming hours.
