CENTRO NUEVA CREACION
Centro
Nueva Creación is a non profit community center in
North Philadelphia dedicated to empowering young people to
transform their community.
Centro
administers after school and summer camp programs to at-risk,
low-income, Latino children in North Philadelphia. All
of our programs are bilingual, low or no cost, and open to
the public.
MISSION
Opened
in 1994, Centro Nueva Creación builds hope in the Fairhill
and West Kensington neighborhoods of North Philadelphia by
creating opportunities for children and families to transform
their community through child-centric, holistic educational
and enrichment activities based in the arts, humanities, and
technology.
VISION
Utilizing
an asset-based approach that demands the development of local
leadership and celebration of the rich Latino culture, Centro
Nueva Creación strives to complement, fill in the gaps,
and maximize the education and opportunities available to
young people in order to help break the cycle of crime and
poverty.
HISTORY
Centro
Nueva Creación opened its doors in 1994, after an extensive
door-to-door campaign asking residents what they want for
their community. The residents echoed each other's concerns:
we want more positive activities for our youth, we want to
bring families together, and we want to make the community
safer, cleaner and more beautiful. These hopes continue
to be the driving force behind all of Centro's programs.
